Full-Grain Leather Presenters

There are rooms where the check presenter is the last piece of theatre in a long evening, and in those rooms a coated vinyl folder is the wrong object. Full grain is worth the money there and we make plenty of them.

We seal them. A light pigmented or protective topcoat over full-grain hide keeps the grain, the smell and the weight, and stops the surface drinking every thumbprint. Purists will tell you it is a compromise; they are right, and it is the compromise that keeps the folder presentable past the first month.

We will also tell you the honest maintenance answer, which is that these want conditioning perhaps twice a year and want keeping out of a dishwasher-adjacent shelf where steam gets at them. Most damage we see on good leather presenters is storage, not use.

Should a leather presenter be sealed?

For hospitality use, yes. An unsealed hide is more beautiful for a fortnight and then permanently marked. A light protective finish keeps the grain and the weight and adds years to how long it looks right. We will make it unsealed if you insist, having said this.

How do we look after them?

Condition them roughly twice a year and keep them away from steam — a shelf near a pass or a glasswasher does more damage than a year of service. Most of the ruined leather presenters we are shown were storage casualties.
